Daniel Franck
Hermanny was born April 19, 1974 in Nîmes. He
is a musician and bassist, member of metal band Adagio since
2001
Franck
begins with classical studies at the Conservatoire de Nimes and studied violin
at the age of 6 years.
It
was his father, an amateur musician, who offers him a bass at the age of 17.
After
starting to listen to Heavy metal groups like Metallica or Iron Maiden, Frank
discovered jazz-rock and fusion through the Canadian group Uzeb and bassist
Alain Caron.
In
1992 Frank studied at the Music Institute of Vocational Education (IMFP) in
Salon de Provence for a year to learn the basics of jazz and Latin music.
He
also played in various bands and orchestras of times, and in subsequent years,
tirelessly working the instrument.
He turned professional in
1994.
In
1998, after studying the double bass (jazz), Frank joined the famous French
virtuoso guitarist Cyril Achard, with whom he recorded a live album (Against
Merger) and album (In Inconstantia Constans, which plays the guitarist /
keyboardist Tony MacAlpine).
Cyril
Achard Trio performed in various festivals alongside groups such as Trio Morglbl
Christophe Godin. Frank
also plays in the formation of the variety show "Cocktail Night" since
1998.
In 1999 he met Stéphan Forté. The
latter asked him to join the project on which he works, and would become a year
later the group Adagio.
The
recording of their debut album Sanctus Ignis Karlsdorf takes place in Germany in
the studio "House Of Audio" and is produced by Dennis Ward (Pink Cream
69).
Adagio
in his career continues with the album Underworld:
The
output of the album was followed by the group's first tour as headliners, during
which recorded his first album Adagio A Band In Upperworld Live at a concert at
the Elysee Montmartre concert hall that the group find still
headlining tour during the next album Dominate, and several times
thereafter.
Meanwhile,
Frank has also participated in the German tour and part of the French tour group
Taboo Voodoo, replacing his friend bassist Ivan Rougny of Morglbl
Trio.
This
group is a project of guitarist Cyril Achard and famous drummer Mike Terrana
(Rage, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tarja Turunen).
Frank
plays occasionally with the band Venturia, with whom he participated in a TV
show Switzerland, "Rock Scene", broadcast on TSR famous Swiss television
channel.
February
2009, output of the fourth album from Adagio, Archangels In Black. The
disc receives a warm welcome in France and abroad, Rolling Stone will devote
even a short and glowing article [1].
Apart
from Adagio, Franck shares his passion for the bass: it performs its double bass
licks instructional DVD in 2008.
He
even participate in various events, like the Musik Messe Frankfurt as a
demonstrator on the Markbass booth, mark bass amps to worldwide fame, with Alain
Caron and Hadrien Feraud.
Franck
has written several columns for teaching purposes in Guitarist Magazine, Bass
Player Magazine, covering techniques used on low Archangels In Black
album.
Passionate
about the composition, he studied the art of arrangement and orchestration
component also in a context related to the audiovisual (pub music, theater,
movies) and participates in various short films ...
In
December 2009, he performed on stage with Patrick Rondat, (guitarist Jean-Michel
Jarre).
It
also occurs with the guitarist and drummer John Fontanille Keuj (Watcha, Pascal
Obispo) at concerts and master classes in various schools of music
known.
Frank
teaches bass at Nimes and give private lessons.
In
2009, Patrick Roy MP, following a political speech at a session of the National
Assembly where he mentions the name of the group met with members of Adagio and
visits them backstage assistant also has several of their Shows , claiming to be one
of their biggest fan.
When
the new album, the band performed on stages like the famous Hellfest
Métallurgicales or, in the first part of the Group Trust.
Since
2001, Frank was loyal to Yamaha bass, mark, which had led since the beginning of
Adagio. But
in 2009, he collaborated with the prestigious brand Ibanez, now playing on
models SR Prestige OL 500E, 706K SR, and SR Ashula, unique model of mid-bass
fretted / fretless, limited edition. A
demo video is playing this bass and Franck single is available on the Ibanez
site and on the official YouTube channel of the Japanese [2].
In
2009, Frank participated in the recording of new album of solo Cyril Achard
Trio, Violencia.
In
March 2010, Adagio joined the American group Kamelot, during his European tour
in March / April 2010 that ends with a concert at Prog & Power Metal Fest in
Belgium with the Scorpions. During
this tour, Adagio occurs with Mats Leven as a singer (Therion, Yngwie
Malmsteen).
This
year will mark the republication of old albums of the band, Sanctus Ignis,
Underworld, and the live album A Band In Upperworld, which was previously
available only in Japanese import.
A
new pressing of Archangels In Black was born in a format "De Luxe", including an
unpublished bonus: separate tracks for three songs, allowing the listener to
make their own mix by using editing software .
Since
November 2010, members of Adagio working on writing the fifth studio album along
with their new singer, Kelly Sundown Carpenter.
In
October 2010, laying low Franck's first solo album of his friend Stéphan Forté
of Adagio guitarist, "The Shadows Compendium" whose output is planned for
2011.
He
was invited to the Music Fair, music & you in Paris on 20 and 21 November
2010 to defend the colors of brands and Ibanez Markbass booth Mogar music France
with Alain Caron, Herman Li and Patrick Rondat.
November
14, 2011, Stéphan Forté and Franck occur during the festival "Jason Becker: Not
dead yet". Franck
will sideman on the pieces of Stephan, from his solo album, on which he recorded
the bass parts as well as sets of guitarists Daniele Gottardo, Marco
Sfogli-guitarist solo project of James Labrie (Dream Theater) - and Atma
Anur, drummer on albums by Jason Becker, Cacophony, and virtually all artists
Shrapnel 1980s.
Franck
has shared the stage with bassist Stuart Hamm during this evening event, which
will also see Guthrie Govan, Michael Lee Firkins, Kiko Loureiro, Mattias Eklundh
performing on stage.
January
2012, Franck was interviewed for the magazine Bass Musician Magazine and the
cover of the January issue of [3].
This
new year should see the output of the fifth studio album Adagio, as well as that
of the "solo" Franck's "Massive Dynamik" with guitarist Richard Daudé and a tour
of master-classes of bass ...
Franck
uses techniques as varied qu'inhabituelles on the instrument. The
sweeping (or sweep), slap phrasing, the technique of return per inch (Slap round
trip) (where the thumb is used as a pick), and also the game at 3
(thumb-index-finger) 4 or gestures (thumb
/ thumb-index-finger).
The
use of artificial harmonics, and the bend, reverse bend, glissando, and
generally used by guitarists - are also part of his technique.
Although
influenced mainly by rock, metal and fusion, Franck uses in improvisation and
solos elements borrowed from Jazz as arpeggios and chromatic approaches
...
